also true, my point of view is that 2001 was the end of the core dynasty era, and a 2001 world series win would have perfectly capped off one of the best dynasties in professional sports

2001 was the absolute worst time, in my opinion, to be a Yankee fan. Especially getting battered by Schilling and Johnson. Not only that, but the fact that our pitching was so much better than theirs, outside of their 1-2 rotation. Added to the fact of Mo's blown save, Luis Gonzalez's walk-off blooper and the simple fact that it was almost immediatly after the September 11th events and all that raw emotion should have carried over into the World Series and we should've given NYC some closure.

totally agree, plus if the Yankees had won in 2001, it would have legitimized the historic comeback victories in games 4 and 5. Schilling and Johnson basically won the series, not the diamondbacks

Also, ever since September 11, 2001, no New York team has won a World Series. That might be a curse.
