I just love Yes, and Led Zeppelin. Thank god I am allowed to. My musical taste is wide enough to love lots of band, without comparing, but just appreciate them each on their own merites.

Great music but ... ( 1 week ago by bregawn69)
Great music but shite lyrics for fuck's sake. "A seasoned witch could call you from the depths of your disgrace..." Absolute bunkum. But it takes me back to my youth. Saw them at Newcastle City Hall on the 'Relayer' tour but, yes (no pun intended), this was their zenith (along with The Yes Album).
After the 2:38 mark ... ( 1 week ago by SabbathMan8815)
After the 2:38 mark, there's no reason to listen to the rest of it. Before that, the song is really awesome and intense, but then after that you get your typical Yes upbeat blandness. Why couldn't they have done more music like they did in the first 2 minutes of this song? Or have I been listening to the wrong Yes songs? "Roundabout" is good, and so is "A Venture" but mostly Yes is just too boring and happy sounding.

Try Topographic Oceans, now that's boring!
But not this one.
I've heard this ... ( 6 days ago by davidg9035)
I've heard this critisism before about their lyrics. No, they don't make much sense, but Jon Anderson was one of many writers who wrote lyrics as a way to "paint the sound". While there's certainly a spiritual backdrop, the real intent here was to create an auditory landscape. Ever read any of the Foo Fighter's lyrics? Dave Grahl does the same thing. In that context, these lyrics are great and they accomplish exactly what they're inteded to do.
Excuse me? Happy ... ( 6 days ago by davidg9035)
Excuse me? Happy sounding? Compared to what? So you'd probably rather listen to the countless 4/4 tunes using I-IV-V progressions with endless variations of the same melody. This music is neither boring nor "happy". These are arguably some of the best musicians of their time exploring musical real estate no one had set foot on to date and very few have explored since. It sickens me how many bands make it nowadays with only a fraction of the musical talent these guys had.
Nah, I actually ... ( 6 days ago by SabbathMan8815)
Nah, I actually love Prog Rock... bands like King Crimson, Camel, Pink Floyd, Gentle Giant and Van Der Graaf Generator... those are prog rock bands that I can get into, mostly cuz they seem to put more drama and darkness into their music... I just can't get into most of Yes's happy sounding music.
The lyrics have ... ( 5 days ago by nanderson1965)
The lyrics have meaning. You need to have a working knowledge of mysticism and an appreciation for myth.
Then the words will come alive and meet the music.
After 40 years new vistas keep opening up with these words.
I love them!
Yes!
To truly find good ... ( 4 days ago by myhigherpie2)
To truly find good music in today's day and age is incredibly difficult without an illegal means to acquire it. There is plenty of good Progressive in this day and age. Porcupine Tree are an incredible experience and are really revitalizing what Progressive rock is all about.
Although even then, music is in a complete slump. I find the only genre I can find good music from the soul is extreme metal, mainly because it is too extreme for "normal" people to appreciate.

Porcupine Tree? ... ( 2 days ago by Spyes23)
Porcupine Tree? SERIOUSLY??
Porcupine Tree might be the most boring band I've ever heard...
"Let's play the same 3-chord progression for 10 minutes with soft piano in the back and annoying vocals! That will be genius!"
Anyways, Sabbath - Yes is beyond greatness if you know music. The bands you mentioned are good, but none of them reach the technical prowess that these guys show... Yes experiments a lot with their sound, yet they still keep their music professional and non-sloppy, unlike e.g KC
